Apply for jobs immediately - don't rely on closing dates!

One top job searching tip we would give to candidates is to apply for vacancies advertised on job boards as soon as you see them.

When an employer advertises on a job board, they will usually set a specific closing date and applications received before that date will screened and a short list for interview stage will be decided.

When an agency is advertising on a job board on behalf of a client, they are working to a much tighter time schedule, and the closing date will largely be dictated by the speed and volume of quality applicants.

Many job adverts posted by agencies will show a closing date, but this is merely the expiry date for the time period the agency has chosen to advertise for.

If before the expiry date the agency feels they have received a suitable number of applicants that meet their client’s specified criteria then they may choose to pull the vacancy early.

Even if a job has not been taken off a job board early, it is very likely that if it has been advertised for a week or more, the agency will already be processing some applications through to the next stage of the recruitment process.

So, if you have seen a job advertised that you are interested in, please don’t look at the closing date and think you have days to spare.  Apply for it now and don’t miss out on the opportunity!
